The Congo Basin in central Africa is a vast wilderness area that is home to numerous species of plants and animals. It is also one of the world’s largest carbon sinks. Despite its importance, much of the basin remains undocumented. Steve Boyes, founder of The Wilderness Project, is leading an expedition to gather scientific information about the Congo River and other river basins in Africa. The research aims to understand and preserve these ecosystems and build resilience against climate change. The collected data will be shared with researchers and local authorities for further analysis and protection measures.
